Vintage Vanity Stool Makeover

While shopping at my recent trip to my favorite local flea market, I came across an old vanity stool. At first it didn't catch my eye, then I had the cutest idea pop into my head! I paid 20 bucks for stool and it was heavy! The seat cushion was old and wore out but the base was still perfect.

Here is what it looked like when I brought it home...It instantly reminded me of a stool the ladies would have used in Downton Abbey. (my favorite show!)

I started by turning it over and removing the screws that connected the base to the cushion.

For the fabric, I went to my local Walmart and found this floral, girly print that I loved! Plus, it was super cheap and I even bought way more than I needed. I used the leftover for a little tablecloth for my girls play table.

I wanted this DIY to be super easy, so I laid out the fabric and cut about a 3 inch edge all the way around the cushion.

I used a basic (and old) staple gun to staple the fabric around the edges. I used what my mom would always call "hospital corners" when making the bed, to fold the edges and staple.

It doesn't have to be perfect, just make sure you pull the fabric as tight as you can before you staple, this will also take out any wrinkles the fabric may have had from being folded.

Once I had it all stapled, I went around and cut off the excess fabric.

Again, I wanted an easy project so the underside isn't the prettiest, but nobody will see that part anyway.

After I was finished I simply put the cushion back on the base and screwed the same screws back in place.

I wiped down all the gold to remove dust. I contemplated painting the gold white, but I actually like the gold better in my girls room.

I added it in between their beds as a stool for them to set on. I may or may not add a little tray on top later.

I would love to know what you think! Thanks for stopping by :)
