One Room Challenge "Farmhouse Chic Girl's Room" Week 1

Welcome friends! I'm beyond excited to be joining along in the One Room Challenge hosted by Linda of Calling It Home. If you're not familiar with the One Room Challenge, it's a challenge to design and makeover a space in just 6 weeks! I am participating as a guest for the first time...and I'm not going to lie...I am a little nervous about completing a room transformation that quick. BUT..I also love a good challenge so I am super excited and ready! I'll be back every Thursday with progress updates and DIY's that I complete along the way and linking up to the official ORC over at Calling It Home.

If you're new to my blog, I live in Oklahoma with my husband and three daughters. We bought my husband's grandparents' house a few years ago and have slowly been updating it along the way. For my transformation, I decided to take on updating my toddlers nursery into a big girls room. Here is the before pics..WARNING..they are slightly on the messy side!

This is literally how the room is all the everywhere and not enough closet space for clothes. I have three daughters..between the 3 of them they share two closets. My older two share a room. This is the smaller of the two rooms so I'm going to have to be pretty minimal when I plan out the design.

As you can see, there is nothing really put together anymore. It also looks a little babyish for her now. I love the stripes but I think they may go, we'll see! I think it may be time for new curtain rod...this one looks to be bending a little.

We kept the old, wooden sliding closet doors in the room and painted them with chalkboard paint. I still love them just because it gives her a space to be creative. I will probably give them a scrub and leave them.

The only thing that will probably stay in this room is the large gray dresser. It belonged to my mother and I painted it a couple years ago. I would like to keep it in the room, all the storage is very helpful too!

Here is my "to-do" list...

  • Find new light fixture and lamps
  • Find a solution for the clothes that won't fit in the closet
  • Update the walls
  • New art (possible DIY?)
  • Find a nightstand
  • Set up bed (I already have a white iron bed I have been saving!)
  • Find bedding & pillows
  • Take out old furniture
  • Make a reading corner
Here is my inspiration board! I am including a few of these items but this is the direction I am headed for the makeover!

I also have a couple of DIY's that I plan on including and making along the way. I have a feeling six weeks is going to go by very quickly! Thanks for stopping by and be sure to check in next week at Calling It Home to see my progress.
