Christmas Mantle Ideas

Welcome! I'm  super excited to be joining in on the Christmas Festival Blog Hop. If you're coming from City Girl Meets Farmboy, welcome and thanks for stopping by. Be sure to check out Anderson + Grant next! Also, a big thank you to Kendra at Joy in Our Home for hosting!

There's no holiday I love decorating more than for Christmas! Besides the tree, Christmas mantles are my jam! We have a very rustic fire place so I try and decorate accordingly with items that will stand out. I love antique mirrors so I started with layering them in the back. I think mantles are all about layering and stacking when you can!

I have this little antique frame with an old family photo in it that stays on my mantle year round. I added this garland spanning across one side of my mantle and draped it down the side. I also had some extra large pinecones I added in a couple spots. I love adding antlers in when I can as well!

I love adding old books everywhere in the house. they are a great way to add height when needed. These old candlesticks I found at a flea market last year for $1 each! If you don't want color from the books simply turn them around like I did here to keep it neutral.

I usually have my stockings on one holder per stocking but this year I really love them all gathered together to the side on two heavy stocking holders. I found these wood letters at Target and the white and red, pom pom stockings at Walmart. I love classic red and white!

Here are some other Christmas mantles I have done in past years for some ideas!

Master Bedroom Makeover | Final Reveal

It's reveal week!!! Man oh man...I will have to admit I struggled with this bedroom transformation. From planning, painting, and decorating in between my daughters sports, I barely made it to the finish line. BUT..I did it! As always if you're not familiar with the One Room Challenge, it's a biannual design challenge that lasts 6 weeks with the final reveal being on the final week. Be sure to head over to the One Room Challenge website to see all the designers reveals! There are some amazing ones!

Okay, let's start with a few before pictures in case you missed week one.

Alright, those are pretty ugly. Can we all agree?! Haha. Now the fun part, the reveal!

The biggest thing we did to transform the space is we used these wood planks from My Timber Wall. They make the room feel so much more cozy and bigger actually. We used "Magnolia White" from the Vintage Collection.

I had these bird prints in a different room of our house and decided to move them to here. They worked well with the colors of the room.

I found this couch from a local church sale for $25! I plan to maybe recover it in the future but I'm loving it as is for now.

I painted that old wooden dresser with white paint and used card catalog hardware for an updated look.

I am obsessed with our new bedding. The blue quilt is from the Better Homes and Gardens collection at Walmart. The duvet cover is from Ballard Designs.

I found these lamps from Target and I love them for our room. They are touch making it easy when we need to get up with the baby in the night.

I shared all about this light switch on my week 4 post and I can't say enough great things about it! We are installing them in every room now. They are programmable so that they turn off when exiting a room. If you have kids...these are a must!! They are from Legrand and can be found HERE.

Needless to say, our 3rd daughter loves the couch! Big thank you to Linda @ Calling it Home Blog for putting on the One Room Challenge. It's such a fun experience every time. Also, thank you to my sponsors listed below!

Master Bedroom Makeover | Week 4

YOU GUYS! It's week 4 of the One Room Challenge. I can't even believe I am saying that! As always, if you're not familiar with the ORC, head over to the website HERE and read ALL about it! While you're there, be sure to check out all the participants and their progress!

I've pretty much finalized all the details at this point. I have a few things I am waiting for in the mail and a little bit more painting to do but it's coming together! Below is a sneak peek of my bedding, lamps, some greenery, and more art. Fun little fact about the art...I have 4 of these prints and they all belonged to my great grandmother. After her husband unexpectedly passed at a young age, she traveled the world. These are prints she bought on her travels. She passed away last month at age 99...she was absolutely amazing so I am honored to be including these in my bedroom. If you've followed me for a long time, you would know I love adding sentimental pieces mixed in with the new.

If you remember last week, I was debating on whether or not our current tufted headboard would look good against the new planked wall. Well...I think I love it! It actually brings out the darker colors in the planks. I really do love our tufted headboard, we watch a lot of Netflix after the kids go to sleep and we also read in bed and it really is more cozy. What do you think? Yes? or No?

I want to talk about some amazing things going on in the room that you wouldn't necessarily notice at first but makes a huge impact when upgrading the room. I was fortunate enough to work with some amazing companies for this makeover, one being Legrand and their Radiant Collection. We had outdated, and I mean circa 1960's, outlets and wall switches! I know I know...probably not safe at all. I was amazed at the functions new outlets and switches can do now. This light switch has a "vacancy" option. Meaning you can program it to turn off automatically when you leave the room. You can set it to turn off anywhere from 30 seconds to 30 minutes after exiting. I cannot tell you how awesome this is! I am ordering one for each room because I am constantly reminding my kiddos to turn the light off and let's face it, they are busy little bees and forget. The one I have below can be found HERE on their website. They also have an "occupancy" one that will automatically turn on when entering as well. I ordered white but they come in multiple colors.

Another thing I love about the new plates is they have a sleek look, meaning no visible screws!

The outlets I chose have the USB ports which is a life saver for our family. We are always scrambling for cubes but this solves that issue nicely! They have several options including an outlet that just has 4 USB ports.  We plan on installing these in every room and the kitchen! You can find all of their options HERE.

There isn't much more I can show you this week but be sure to come back next week to see the dresser finished! I have card catalog pulls ordered for it that I am so excited about. I also found a gorgeous antique vanity that I am praying I can still pick up on Friday. It a Facebook marketplace find that I will probably lose sleep over the next two nights! Thanks for stopping by!

Master Bedroom Makeover | Week 3

Hi! Thanks for stopping by for week 3 of the One Room Challenge! Oh man, the weeks are flying by and these update posts are creeping up on me! Since the final week will be the week we photograph everything that pretty much means we have about two more weeks to finish! So, here is what we accomplished this week..

We finished this wall using the wood planks from My Timber Wall and I am obsessed! The color we used is Magnolia White from the Vintage Collection. I cannot wait to show you the whole wall. The color is almost a white washed look.

I have these two large vintage paintings and I am still trying to decide which one (if any) I want to use in this space.

Ok, here is my dilemma...I currently have a tufted headboard similar pictured to the one below. Once we installed the planks I am not completely loving the look of our bed against the color of the planks.

I have been browsing some stores and came across this metal bed pictured below and I think I am loving it. It's actually pretty affordable too! I'd love to know which you think looks best in the comments!

I did start painting this dresser today and I should be done with painting it in the next couple of days.

Here is what it looked like before... After I finish painting I plan on changing out the hardware for some card catalog hardware.

Well that is literally as far as I got in the last week! I hope to share more next week so be sure to stop back by for more progress!
